Understanding Mutual Funds

Access professionally managed, diversified investment opportunities tailored to your goals, time horizon, and risk profile, while Munaafa Investments assists in comparing fund types, assessing suitability, and building disciplined long-term portfolios with confidence.

Understanding Mutual Funds

A mutual fund is an investment vehicle that pools money from multiple investors and invests it in a diversified portfolio of assets such as stocks, bonds, money market instruments, and other securities. Each investor owns units of the fund, representing a proportional share of the fund’s holdings and any income or capital appreciation generated.

Over the years, mutual funds have become one of the most popular investment options for individuals seeking to build long-term wealth, save for retirement, or achieve other financial goals. They provide access to professionally managed portfolios and diversified investments that may be difficult to build individually.

At Munaafa Investments (Private) Limited, we help clients understand different mutual fund options and guide them in selecting solutions that align with their financial objectives, investment horizon, and risk profile.

Important: Mutual funds are subject to market risks, and returns are not guaranteed. Investors should carefully assess their financial goals and risk tolerance before investing.

Types of Mutual Funds

Open-Ended Mutual Funds

Open-ended mutual funds continuously issue new units and redeem existing units at the prevailing Net Asset Value (NAV).

  • Purchase units anytime
  • Redeem units whenever required
  • Daily NAV pricing
  • Flexible investment option

Closed-Ended Mutual Funds

Closed-ended mutual funds issue a fixed number of units through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Once issued, these units are traded on the stock exchange at market prices.

  • Fixed number of units
  • Listed on Stock Exchange
  • Market-based pricing
  • Secondary market trading

Structure of Mutual Funds

Mutual funds in Pakistan are managed by licensed Asset Management Companies (AMCs) operating under the regulatory framework established by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

Each mutual fund is established through a Trust Deed between the Asset Management Company and an independent Trustee approved by the SECP.

The Trustee safeguards investors’ assets while ensuring investment decisions remain within approved regulatory guidelines. The Central Depository Company (CDC) currently serves as Trustee for many mutual funds operating in Pakistan.
